Coating Application Tools

Coating Rods - Stainless Steel, 5/8" Diameter

Introducing the No. 90 Coating Rod application tool. The Coating Rod is a precision wire wound, stainless steel rod used to apply an exact thickness of inkAID onto any substrate in a single application. Coating Rods are available in three lengths; 25, 33, and 45 inches, to coat finished substrates widths of 17, 24, and 36 inches, respectively.

The Coating Rod easily applies just the right amount of inkAID ink jet receptive Pre-Coat to your substrate in just seconds in just a single application.

Here's how it works:

1. Secure the substrate onto a hard, flat, level surface. A suitably sized piece of Tempered Glass or Plex-Glass provides a good surface for coating on. Secure the substrate at the top with masking tape or something similar so that the piece cannot move as you are applying the coating.

2. Place the Coating Rod at the top of the substrate. Spread an appropriate amount of inkAID Pre-Coat across the front of the Coating Rod, placing slightly more Pre-Coat in the center of the Coating Rod. It is recommended that you perform a few practice applications with small pieces until you have developed a good judgement of the amount of Pre-Coat required for a given sized piece of substrate.

3. Grasp the Coating Rod at both ends as shown. Draw the Coating Rod down the length of the substrate using one smooth and steady stroke. Do not stop during the drawdown procedure. Do not roll the coating rod over the substrate. Apply slight downward pressure as you draw the rod down and push the inkAID Pre-Coat completely off of the bottom end of the substrate.

4. Pick up the coated substrate and place on a smooth, level surface until completely dry. Excess inkAID Pre-Coat can be collected and used over again.

If you are coating multiple pieces of substrate you can continue using the Coating Rod without cleaning as long as the coating does not dry.

To clean the Coating Rod, use mild detergent and warm water, rinsing well. Stand the Coating Rod up on end to dry or use a clean dry hand towel.

The Coating Rods are manufactured of heavy duty stainless steel and will last for many years if handled and stored properly.

The Coating Rods are designed to apply inkAID White Matte, Clear Semi-Gloss, Clear Gloss, Clear Gloss Type II, and Iridescent Coatings.

The Coating Rods are not designed for applying inkAID Adhesive Primer. Coating Rods specifically designed for the application of the Adhesive Primer are available as a special order item. Please contact support.

If excess coating needs to be filtered before using again, medium to fine mesh Paper Cone filters, available in the Automobile Paint section of an Automobile Part Supply Store, are recommended.
