inkAID™ Clear Gloss Type II
inkAID Clear Gloss Precoat Type II combines several materials to provide a coating with enhanced adhesion to most smooth, non-porous surfaces without the need to prime the surface with the Adhesive Primer. It was developed to provide a “one-step” ink jet receptive coating option for printing on plastic, metal, plexi-glass, and glass among many other materials. It can also be applied to any porous surface such as paper, canvas, or textiles. Printers having tracking or guiding wheels can leave marks on non-porous substrates such as plastic, metal, or glass to which inkAID Clear Gloss Type II has been applied. Porous substrates such as paper with inkAID Clear Gloss Type II coating are not of concern.

- Check MSDS for Clear Gloss Type II Precoat for safety instructions in handling this product. Wear protective gloves.
- Stir inkAID Clear Gloss Type II before applying.
- Foam brushes are the preferred applicator, as they provide a smoother coating than bristle brushes. Brush onto the surface in even strokes, applying a moderate amount of coating. On smooth, non-porous surfaces apply enough coating so that the coating begins to flow and level by itself. A second light coating can be applied if necessary after allowing the surface to dry overnight. On papers and other porous materials, a second coating, applied perpendicularly to the first, is often used. inkAID coatings may be diluted with 5 – 10% water if needed.
- When the coating has dried to the touch the sheet is ready for printing.
- Some modification to your color settings or profile may be necessary for optimal color, especially if you are working on a non-white surface where the inks will be blending with the surface color. Use “semigloss or enhanced matte” paper settings as a starting point.
- Allow the print to dry for a day or two before any top coating is applied. After top coating, you can coat it with other, compatible coatings (such as acrylic medium) for further protection or work over the print with natural media.
